History

A variant of the "Americano" recipe, the Negroni was invented in Florence (Italy) in 1919. Count Camillo Negroni suggested to bartender Fosco Scarelli that he strengthen the aperitif by using the same ingredients, but without the soda water and by adding gin which he had discovered during his travels in London. The bartender gave it the Count's name to shorten the too-long name "Americano with gin".

Decoration

Decorate with ½ slice of orange on the rim of the glass.

Variation

Many variations of the negroni exist, here are a few: - "Negroni Sbagliato": replace the gin with prosecco. - "Boulevardier": replace the gin with bourbon. - "Mezcal Negroni": replace the gin with mezcal. - "Cardinale": replace the red vermouth with dry vermouth. - "White Negroni": Lillet Blanc, Suze, gin in the same proportions
