History

The White Lady was created in 1919 by Harry MacElhone, a Scottish bartender, while he was working at Ciro's Club in London. Originally, the recipe included triple sec, lemon juice and white crème de menthe. However, in 1929, after opening the famous Harry's New York Bar in Paris, MacElhone modified the recipe by replacing the crème de menthe with gin. This cocktail has become a classic of the "sour" style, appreciated for its balance between acidity and sweetness.
